It is said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step but for Josephine Leshao that step is the beginning of a transformed life for her and her family. This is following the handover of a plot worth 1.5 million shillings to Leshao on Friday the 15th of October 2021.
Leshao was among the three candidates who were selected to participate in a competition to win the property donated by the Optiven Group Foundation. The voting for the same kicked off in September 2021 and the public overwhelmingly chost Leshao to win. Her story was featured in the Badilisha Life na Optiven Campaign which kicked off in May 2021 through a partnership with journalist Lynn Ngugi.
The latter entered into a partnership with Optiven Limited on 12th April 2021 where the company through its Foundation donated the plot worth 1.5 million shillings for the benefit of a needy family, and in line with the Poverty Eradication pillar under the foundation.
But who exactly is Josephine Leshao?
During the interview held on 15th June 2021, she shared her story and invited her family to authenticate her story to the public. She was sold off to her husband aged 13, but not to a happily ever after. Her husband went on to get 9 more wives and infect all of them with HIV/Aids.
However, the mother of three is also nursing cancer but is nonetheless determined to write a different script for her life and that of her children and so she started a fresh. Josephine was one of the three families whose stories were highlighted in an effort to get one of them a piece of land at the Garden of Joy donated by Optiven Foundation.
The voting process was left to the public and took a period of 10 days until September 10th 2021. Following the announcement of the win the team and partners from Optiven travelled to Mai Mahiu on 14th October 2021 to share the good news with Leshao after she emerged the winner. And on the grand day for the handover, the Chairman of the Optiven Group Foundation Mr. George Wachiuri was at hand to not only witness the event, but to also hand over the legit title deed to Leshao.
Wachiuri said that the donation was one of the key ways to share in the transformation of our society because a life changed, means a stable home. He added “we are humbled to be the ones holding hands with Leshao and her family through partnership with Lynn Ngugi and we look forward to work with other partners to make it possible for her to build her home. We are calling on well wishers to join us in this viable life changing cause for the sake of Leshao”.
This is the second time that Optiven is donating land to worthy causes having donated a similar high profile piece of land to the Kenya Christian Fellowship of America KCFA. https://www.optiven.co.ke/newsblogs/we-give-the-best-to-gods-work-as-we-donate-to-kcfa/
