FUTURE GRADUATES WILL BE ALL-INCLUSIVE INDIVIDUALS WITH SKILLS , WITH GIFTS TO BE EXEMPLARY IN OFFERING SERVICES TO THE INDUSTRY AND SOCIETY.
Beneficiaries of SESP will be among the first candidates to benefit under TVET training support from the Optiven Foundation. The new development was launched today in Laburra, Kieni County led by the Foundation Chairman, George Wachiuri. Speaking at the event, Wachiuri lauded the recent announcement by the government that will see massive investment in modernization and expansion of technical education and training TVET institutions.
Optiven through it’s foundation joined the government efforts to enhance opportunities for students leaving secondary and high schools respectively under the soaring eagles scholarship programme SESP. Wachiuri said, “we are starting the tvet engagement programme in laburra, kieni county and are keen to expand to support students all over the country to attain technical skills training.
We take note that the government has initiated various centers of excellence including
- Kenya coast polytechnic for seafarer and blue economy,
- Meru national polytechnic for building engineering,
- Kisumu national polytechnic for textile,
- Kiambu national polytechnic for industrial mechatronics,
- Thika national polytechnic for automotive motor building
- Nairobi national polytechnic for automotive body building among others.”
The increment of enrolled students to tvet institutions from 55,000 in 2013 to over 288,000 currently is testimony that Kenya is ready to reap the benefits of technical training. The Optiven Foundation together with its partners, are keen to realize sustainable development goal 4 on quality education to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
The end result is for graduates of tvet to sharpen their skills in readiness for the local, regional and global market. This ties very well with the opportunity to gain employment as we embrace sdg goal number 8. This goal seeks to bring to life the key role of decent work for all in achieving sustainable development with the aim to “promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”.
Moreover, the Optiven Foundation will offer support towards tvet training in an all round plan that will seek to be all-inclusive to impact individuals with skills in areas such as sports, music, and games. To the graduates your best gift is to be exemplary and to offer your services to the industry and society.
Wachiuri adds that, “we want to engage our youth in gainful employment since not all of them can get into blue collar jobs. There is no bad job since the income does not say where it comes from. To our youth, stay clear of get-rich-quick schemes which have led some to jail for being involved in the wrong vices. We as the Optiven Foundation are working with the community and through the education pillar together with our partners to reduce poverty, transform communities and empower the beneficiaries under the tvet program that begins this may 2022“
