Millions of children across the developing world are not in school and thousands more may never have the chance to attend. This has a serious impact on their future, as education can break the cycle of poverty, leading to more opportunities for them and their families. This has been the trend for a couple of years, and still continuing to be. The act of helping the helpless is not a suggestion, but one’s Christian duty. James 1:27 says, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you”
As the Optiven Foundation, we are answering to the above call, to alleviate poverty through education and to heed to the call of God. This year again, we have had the privilege of touching lives again, we have taken in the second round of Eaglets to join the Soaring Eagles Scholarship Program, these students are from across various counties in the country, and are either orphaned or from extremely needy backgrounds as verified from the home visits.
This is a chance for them to break the poverty chain and achieve that which they have always aspired to. We are offering them a full scholarship, at an estimated cost of Ksh.100,000 per year. We have huge number of applicants that we could not take in due to financial constraints and we are therefore seeking partners who can join hands with us in this noble cause. Any contribution will go a long way to make a difference in another’s life.
Orphaned children go to school while also dealing with psychosocial issues, trauma, stigma, and expectations, factors that have an impact on their performance in school. With this in mind, we always have an annual session with the students, to reach out to them in a bid to mentor them and encourage them through their academic journey. We want them to grow to be like Christ, that is to train them to grow spiritually, physically, emotional, and socially (Luke 2:52).
We want all the Eaglets to understand and accept the truth and the fear of the Lord so they can grow and mature in wisdom and have a positive impact on their generation. Each of them has aspirations and we thank God that we are part of their success story.
