Glee filled joy and a full platter of different cuisine characterized the meeting of the Optiven Foundation and the Optiven Football Club on 7th July 2024. The children at the World Restoration and Rehabilitation Center in Rongai were the greatest beneficiaries of the event that also saw the Optiven Foundation and Optiven FC team members get their hands on the grind to cook and later play a friendly with the children.

The event coincided with the internationally recognized World Food Day which was celebrated under the theme, “prepare for the unexpected”. Cathrine Khasoa, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Lead at Optiven Group noted, “now more than ever there is need to collaborate on matters of food as it is at the heart of humanity.

For Optiven – both the Foundation and the Football Club – food through donations, support as well as empowerment has been a core agenda under our Corporate Shared Value over the last few years. This we have done in collaboration with our stakeholders mainly our customers at Optiven Real Estate where the company dedicates a percentage of the profits to the foundation.

Because we adhere to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we collaborate to draw attention and inspire action to prevent, detect and manage food-borne risks; contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development.”

Ann Nyaga, Optiven Foundation Cordinator says, “As a foundation we have been involved in various food drives and donations that have benefitted children’s homes, slum families and other individuals. The penultimate engagement saw Optiven Foundation donating 1,000,000 shillings to the Kenya Red Cross to assist flood victims across the country ”.

Her sentiments were echoed by the Manager at Optiven FM Daniel Kariuki who added, “As sports people we are grateful to have transformed the lives of the community at the World Restorations and Rehabilitation Center in Rongai. We are deliberate about remaining champions for a better society through sports and we thank all those who made it possible for us to be of benefit today.”

The event was a transformative platform during which the Optiven Foundation and the Optiven FC team members cooked and shared a meal with the community, donated foodstuff and later had a friendly match with the children.
