The world can end AIDS – if everyone’s rights are protected. With human rights at the centre, with communities in the lead, the world can end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. This is the clarion call from the World Health Organization as the globe takes a look at how far we have come on World AIDS Day 2024 under the theme “Take the rights path: My health, my right!”.
In this year’s campaign, WHO is calling on global leaders and citizens to champion the right to health by addressing the inequalities that hinder progress in ending AIDS. Although the WHO European Region has made progress in tackling HIV, significant challenges remain in identifying and treating cases, as well as preventing new infections in the first place. At the Optiven Foundation, there have been great interventions over the years.
It is through partnership between the Optiven Foundation and the Optiven Real Estate that the Soweto Aids Children’s Home was rebuilt and refurbished in Kayole Nairobi under the campaign FeedONEMore. During the height of the COVID 19 and the drought food crisis, the Optiven Foundation led a campaign to offer food and sustenance to households in need under the KeepingHOPE Alive.
By engaging in the education of youth through providing training opportunities for vocational TVET and university students many have been able to change their lives and keep away from vices. Still on education the Optiven Foundation has worked with schools in Kajiado County, Kilifi County and Nyeri County to provide better facilities such as laboratories, ablution blocks, environment initiatives and scholarships to ensure that the communities are empowered and educated.
At the Optiven Foundation we continue to make a difference through embracing the 2030 SDGs
