Food is one of the most important basic need. This implies that you cannot survive without a meal for more than 72 hours. For this reason, under the Sustainable Development Goal Number 2 ; Zero Hunger, aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture under this year’s theme “Food Standards Save Lives“
The Optiven Foundation under their Health and Dignity pillar have been actively promoting good health and wellbeing for all people through partnerships and donations. This year in February, the Foundation donated over 1.5 million shillings towards drought mitigation and food security in Marsabit, Turkana and Samburu. Chief Executive at Optiven George Wachiuri during the official launch called on Kenyans to embrace environment sustainability noting its effects have affected both weather and food patterns.
The Optiven Foundation in partnership with Upside Trust and IHope Kenya have been to Kakululo in Kitui county, Bondo in Siaya county and will on the 9th June 2023 be in Kieni in Nyeri county advancing the “Feed One More” program.
The program is a humanitarian initiative seeking to provide food relief to communities in Kenya facing hunger and malnutrition. The program was launched in 2016 due to severe drought and has since distributed to over 5000 households as Ann Nyaga the Optiven Foundation coordinator highlights,
“The Optiven Foundation is committed to working to prevent foodborne illnesses and have provided educational resources to help people learn about food safety and help implement safe food handling“
Sustainable Development Goal number 2 is important because hunger and malnutrition are major threats to human health and development and can lead to deficiencies which have lifelong consequences. We welcome you to partner with us to educate, get involved with the community and support by making an impact today as George Wachiuri said “We tend to think about food safety when we get sick, but we should think more often because foodborne diseases are entirely preventable“
