Did you know that October is the dedicated month for creating awareness on breast cancer?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month started in 1985 as a week-long campaign launched by the American Cancer Society and pharmaceutical company Imperial Chemical Industries to promote early detection.

The pink ribbon became the universal symbol of the movement in the early 1990s, popularized by SELF magazine and Estée Lauder to build solidarity and global visibility. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, accounting for over 2.3 million new diagnoses and roughly 670,000 deaths globally each year.

About 1 in 8 women (roughly 13%) will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. Men Can Get It Too: Breast cancer is rare in men—representing about 0.5% to 1% of all cases—but thousands of men are still diagnosed with it annually. Around half of all breast cancer cases occur in women who have no specific family history or high-risk genetic markers. Finding breast cancer early through regular screenings like mammograms raises the 5-year survival rate significantly—reaching up to 99% when caught in localized stages.

Cancer touches lives, families and communities, reminding us of the importance of compassion, awareness and early detection. On 23 October 2026, Optiven Foundation joins the fight against cancer by embracing the power of pink—a colour that symbolises hope, courage, love and solidarity with those affected by the disease.

Through this pink-themed awareness initiative, Optiven Foundation calls on stakeholders to support cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and families navigating the cancer journey. Beyond the colour, the initiative is a reminder that every conversation, every act of kindness and every step towards early detection can make a meaningful difference.

Cancer awareness begins with knowledge. Understanding the importance of screening, recognising potential warning signs and seeking medical advice promptly can help improve outcomes. The Optiven Foundation encourages everyone to prioritise their health, seek reliable medical information and support loved ones through their screening, diagnosis, treatment and recovery journeys.

At Optiven Foundation, the commitment to transforming lives extends beyond material support. It is about building caring communities where people feel seen, supported and encouraged, especially during difficult moments.

By wearing pink, we send a powerful message: no one should have to face cancer alone.
